Define ‘Good’

“Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good…” (Psalm 135:3)

A thing that is ‘good’ is ‘as it ought to be’.  A good meal is seasoned well and properly fitted to the palate of the diner.

A ‘good’ thing is also ‘beneficial’ in some way.  A good friend is the one that shows up when you need to move a couch or fix your car, not just when the football game is on and the food is free.

A ‘good’ thing is also ‘morally right’.  A hundred dollars would be beneficial, but not good if I got that hundred dollars by stealing it!

Praise the LORD, for He is all of these things.  He is as He ought to be and doesn’t need fixing or changing.  He is certainly beneficial to us, and offers rest for our trials and comfort for our sorrows.  He is also morally right.  He offers us salvation, but He paid the price of our sins Himself.  The cross is proof of His justice as well as His mercy.

We need more good in this world – a ‘good’ place to start is by praising Him!
