“Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; or the LORD will see it and be displeased, and turn His anger away from him.” (Proverbs 24:17-18)
Winning isn’t everything. Our enemies are people, too. It is the desire for all men to come to a knowledge of the truth and repentance that sets Christians aside from others. For us, it shouldn’t be about defeating others, but reaching them.
One of the great causes of the divisive world we live in is that people forget that we are all in this together. We can disagree with people and pray for the truth to prevail, but our goal isn’t to demolish others, but to change hearts.
Jesus died for us while we were His enemies. What if we started making sacrifices for those we disagreed with that showed we love them as much as He loves them. Jesus proves that we can reach out without compromising our principles.
Christians don’t want to win – we know we already have! We want our enemies to see Him and join us.
