When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?”
(Mark 6:2)
One of the greatest proofs of Jesus’ divinity is that He spoke the things that He did. Jesus was a son of a poor carpenter from Nazareth, raised in the lower, uneducated classes of Jewish society. He was not an aristocrat, nor would He have had access to upper-level scholarship and philosophy. These are facts that even the most skeptical of historians agree to.
Yet, His words are recorded in red and are considered some of the most profound of all philosophy. His teachings show an insight into humanity that surpasses the greatest of psychologists and sociologists. Even those who disagree with Jesus understand that no other teacher has had a greater impact upon the thinking and culture of mankind than Him. He spoke with authority and accuracy.
So, where did this Man get these things? That is the question that His contemporaries asked and it is the same one we are left with today. He says He received His teachings from His Father and offers these same teachings to us freely. In short, I believe Him, and I think you should, too. No other explanation makes any sense.
