“I heard and my inward parts trembled, at the sound my lips quivered. Decay enters my bones, and in my place I tremble. Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress, for the people to arise who will invade us.” (Habakkuk 3:16)
Knowledge isn’t always a blessing. Habakkuk knew what the future was (Babylon was going to invade Judah), and knowing didn’t make life easier. How many hard things in life have you gone through that if you’d known ahead of time how hard it was going to be you would have given up before you started. Sometimes it’s nice not to know.
God doesn’t tell us everything about our future because we aren’t equipped to handle it. If you knew the day you were going to die, it probably wouldn’t help your day-to-day life. We aren’t meant to handle that kind of pressure.
Too much information is decay to the bones and leads to quivering lips. Maybe there is a lesson there about 24-hour news coverage…
Just take care of one day at a time for the person in the mirror. You don’t have to handle the big stuff – leave that to God. His shoulders are a lot broader than ours.
