“Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.”
(Acts 5:4)
When Ananias and Sapphira lied about the money, the inception point for their sin was their heart. Your heart is the soil from which righteousness or wickedness may grow. It is the birthplace of good or evil. Ananias didn’t guard his heart against the seedlings of pride and greed; consequentially, the idea of lying about the proceeds from the sale of the land grew and bore the fruit of sin.
Your heart is the most sacred soil of your life. It needs to be weeded and have unrighteous deeds squashed at their inception point. Our sins don’t originate from outside of us; they originate from inside. The eternal dialogue or “self-talk” that we allow ourselves needs to be full of affirmation of righteousness and condemnation of sin. Don’t give sin a little corner of your heart to grow, or it will. Instead, plant good things, and you will find yourself bearing good things, too.
