“Who drink wine from sacrificial bowls while they anoint themselves with the finest of oils, yet they have not grieved over the ruin of Joseph.” (Amos 6:6)
Israel worshipped themselves – they drank their wine, ate their fine foods, and anoint themselves with extravagant beauty products. They chose luxury over character. We fear poverty, but perhaps we should fear riches more. When our lives are secure, our souls often sit on the precipice of destruction.
If the devil can’t destroy us, perhaps all he needs to do is distract us with the “finer things” in life? We ought to be wary of the temptation to adore the blessings instead of the Bless-er.
“No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier.” (II Timothy 2:4)
