“I gave you a king in My anger and took him away in My wrath.” (Hosea 13:11)
Sometimes God gives us what we want as punishment. Israel wanted a king and God gave it to them just so they would realize that it wasn’t what they needed.
Sometimes the best punishment is receiving the foolish thing we wished for. Sometimes the kindest grace is when God denies us the thing we wrongfully desired.
