“The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to them again and again by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place; but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, until there was no remedy.” (2 Chronicles 36:15-16)
The most dangerous thing in the world is a religious people that won’t listen to God. I’m not concerned about the world rejecting God – they’ve always done that. I’m not concern about the immorality amongst unbelievers and the faithless.
But what happens when the church doesn’t take the Scripture seriously anymore? What happens if we as believers no longer know the Word even though God has made it so widely available? We know what happens – God’s wrath awaits us if we reject His Word though He has sent it over and over again.
We have Bibles in our homes… but do we read them?
We have sermons and lessons taught every Sunday and available any day of the week… but do we apply them?
The church without the Word is no longer Christ’s church – it’s man’s church.
Israel reminds us – it isn’t enough to say we are His people, we have to know Him, too. You can help people who don’t know better yet, but there is no remedy when we don’t want to listen anymore.
