“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)
It isn’t good to get stuck thinking about the “good ol’ days”, but we could all do with the good ol’ ways. The old paths are the ones that God set up, not man.
The Bible ways remind us to love our neighbor, train up our children, keep our marriage vows, and be honest at all times.
The ancient paths are the ones where the church isn’t about entertainment, it’s about worship and church isn’t somewhere you go on Sunday, it’s something we are supposed to be every day.
The Bible road is full of hard choices of sacrifice for others, keeping your word even when it costs you, putting off instant gratification in lieu of long-term hopes, and showing gratitude instead of entitlement.
The streets of the Scripture are full of charity instead of greed, justice instead of corruption, and every soul being treated like it is made in the image of God regardless of age, skin color, or gender… because they are.
The New Testament road leads us to more prayer and less anxiety. It leads to congregations singing together, praying for one another, and worshipping the Creator instead of the creature.
The ancient paths are the way to live. The ancient paths are Jesus. The world needs Him. Our country needs Him. The church needs Him. Our homes need Him.
I need Him.
Nobody gets home if they don’t know the Way. And the Scriptures are God’s gift so we can always stop and ask for directions.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
