“Did not Solomon king of Israel sin regarding these things? Yet among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel; nevertheless, the foreign women caused even him to sin.”
Nehemiah 13:26
We do not talk enough about the dangers of sexual temptation. Solomon is a reminder to us that wisdom and greatness are not protections from it, and that all can be destroyed by its fateful grasp. In a society where pornography is easily accessible, affordable, and anonymous – the dangers of sexual sin have never been more present.
How many marriages are being destroyed right now by the click of a mouse or the chatroom of a social media account? How many young minds are being polluted by a false world of eroticism and sensuality? These same young minds will later be unable to make real intimate connections with their future spouses because they have been deceived by the devil’s fantasies.
It has nothing to do with intelligence or wisdom. There is no solution to be found to this sin through cleverness or strength of will. The answer is one word – FLEE. Flee sexual temptation like Joseph from Potiphar’s wife. Flee the youthful lusts by making yourself accountable to others for your internet usage before the web entangles you. Flee these sins by seeking help and exposing the darkness to the light if they have ensnared you.
“Flee!” is the only wise choice.
