“The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,” declares the LORD of hosts.
(Haggai 2:8)
When the Israelites went to build the temple, they were discouraged that the temple they built wasn’t as glorious as the one Solomon had built with all its golden glory.
They felt inferior, but that wasn’t how God saw it. God saw their effort, not their gold. He saw their reverence and service and that was what mattered to Him. He didn’t care about how fancy the temple was… all the gold and the silver in the world already belongs to Him.
What would we do if we stopped worrying about being the best? What if we stopped comparing ourselves to others and just started offering what we have?
There will always be someone who is MORE. More educated in the Bible, more hospitable, more evangelistic, more prayerful, more courageous. Stop worrying about the more, and just START.
God isn’t comparing you to others, nor will accept the excuse that we were afraid that our effort wouldn’t be enough so we just buried our talent. Find something small and begin.
Begin to learn more from your Bible, begin to show hospitality, begin to spread His Word, begin to pray, and begin to be brave. Don’t worry about others, start with you.
