“I called on Your name, O LORD, out of the lowest pit.”
(Lamentations 3:55)
Jeremiah (the writer of Lamentations) knew a little bit about pits. He once got plopped right at the bottom of a muddy cistern and left to die (see Jeremiah 38). He wrote about being low because he had been there.
There is nothing like a forced time-out at the bottom of the world to give us some time to think about our priorities. Jeremiah knew that when you are DOWN, it’s time to call UP.
We all have down times – and, boy, aren’t they the pits? (see what I did there?)
God wants to make a prayerful person out of you. He wants you to talk to Him and look up to Him. If you are in the pits of life, call for the King. You don’t have to go it alone.
While you are at it – maybe asking someone else to pray UP for you, too. Wouldn’t it be great if our distress could make others call on His name, too?
