“He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities” (Ps 103:10)
We lie, we cheat, we wink at our cleverness and trickery. We laugh off our sins because they are so commonplace in our lives that we would be overwhelmed if we realized how often we transgress God’s laws.
Show me a man that hasn’t lusted after a woman. Show me a woman that hasn’t hated another in her heart. Show me someone that has never felt envy at another’s fortunes or complained about their own lot in life. We are all adulterers, murderers, and thieves in our hearts. We’ve all murmured and complained against God and His sovereignty at some point. (see Matt 5:21f, Mk 7:21, and Rom 5:12)
It’s a good thing we don’t get what we deserve. In Christ, and only in Christ (see Jhn 14:6), we don’t get what is fair, we get what is merciful. Live like a child of grace and second chances.
“as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Ps 103:12)
