Righteous Self-Destruction

“When I say to the righteous he will surely live, and he so trusts in his righteousness that he commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but in that same iniquity of his which he has committed he will die.”

Ezekiel 33:13

Past goodness is not proof of future goodness.  When we do the right thing, we must remember to then do the next right thing, too.

Pride leads to sin because it allows us to believe that our previous success causes us to be immune to future failures.  You will fall and fail and sin.  These things happen to the most faithful of servants.  Be aware of your weaknesses and don’t boast that you won’t be tempted.

Remember what happened when Peter said he would never deny Christ?  Yeah – none of us are better than that godly apostle.  If it could happen to him, it can happen to us.  Stay humble and beware the pride of the self-righteous man.
