“There is one who pretends to be rich, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth.” (Pr 13:7)
There are many reasons not to compare yourself to others, but this proverb provides a very good one – pretending to be rich isn’t the same as being rich. In like manner, pretending to be happy isn’t the same as being happy, and pretending to be important isn’t the same as being important.
The world is full of broke people spending to impress other broke people and unhappy people regaling other unhappy people with how great their life is. All of this is a symptom of seeking the favor of men above the favor of God.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Do your best, work hard, learn from your mistakes and walk by faith. Deep people don’t live shallow lives.
