Pause, Reflect, Reorient

And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

(Mark 6:31)

Jesus commanded His disciples to rest from time to time.  There are those in the brotherhood that don’t work enough, but there are also those who well-intentioned souls that work so hard and so tirelessly that they burn themselves out from the effort.

We do well to remember that Jesus made time for rest and recovery.  He made time to sneak away to secluded places for prayer and rest… and commanded His apostles to do the same.  We see Paul taking this same approach when he chose to walk alone to Assos while the rest of the party to the more efficient route by sea in Acts 20:13.  There is a need to pause, reflect, reorient, and then dive back into the fray a stronger servant.

Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.  God made them after all.
