May God Forgive Us

“So His appearance was marred more than any man and His form more than the sons of men.” (Isaiah 52:14)

The stylized pictures of Jesus upon the cross have likely given most of us a false impression that Jesus would have looked heroic upon the cross.

Instead, it is much more likely that we would have been repulsed by Him had we been there.  A bloody, beaten body so marred that His form barely resembled the Man who walked the hills of Galilee.  The smells of death and the stink of a crucifixion site would have filled our senses.

Jesus upon the cross was horrific.  It would have turned our stomach.

While Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, our Lord was marred beyond recognition by whips and thorns.

The heroism isn’t in how He looked, it is in the fact that He went anyways.

I am so thankful that Jesus prayed for God to forgive us for what we did.  We treated the Son of God worse than an animal.

And He loves us anyways.
