“What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning cloud and like the dew which goes away early.” (Hosea 6:4)
When our loyalty to God disappears as soon as things get tough, can we really call it loyalty in the first place? A fickle faith is one that has no deep roots because the soil of our hearts is hard and we’ve allowed the weeds of life to choke out our commitment to God.
Christians must, above all else, be steadfast in our faith. It isn’t about what we do in the snapshots of life that matter – it is who we are over the long haul. Faith is a long-term commitment to endurance until death. We must stick it out through the monotony of life, the pandemics, and the eras of prosperity, too.
Who are we at our core? Is our faith skin deep or are our roots sunk deep into the river of life?
“For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)
