“Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil.”
(Mark 4:5)
More and more young people are admitting to the real struggle to form deep meaningful relationships. The reason is clear – they are growing up in a shallow society. We hop from one fun moment to the next, filling our days with memes, tiny text conversations, and light entertainment options. This shallow lifestyle is the devil’s handiwork. The gospel only takes root in deep people who spend time thinking about what matters, contemplating their own lives and the lives of others, and growing close to God and others through consistent effort and adversity.
Satan wants us to be shallow people that are distracted by our cell phones at the dinner table and focus on the highlight reels of everyone else on social media. Satan wants you to be so focused on entertainment that you miss out on growth. The pursuit of “newness” replaces searching for the ancient paths. We can be Athens (see Acts 17:21) or we can heed Jeremiah’s call.
Thus says the LORD, “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
(Jeremiah 6:16)
