Learn First. Listen First. Speak Last.

“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.” (Jeremiah 1:9)

To be clear – God put His words in Jeremiah’s mouth through miraculous intervention.  Jeremiah was guided by the Holy Spirit and divinely touched for the prophecy he was to speak to the nations.

The mode of putting God’s word in our mouths has changed, but the goal of doing so hasn’t.  Today, we must study to show ourselves approved workman that handle accurately God’s Word.  We must be diligent to speak what can be found in the Scriptures so that our words properly reflect the character and teachings of God.

As one gentleman put it, “I try and speak like my Bible reads.”  It is one of the reasons we must be such committed Bible students.  Words matter and the right ones aren’t easily chosen.  Careless words come easy, while well-driven words are hard to fasten in place.

Learn first.  Listen first. Speak last.
