Just the Facts

“They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

(Mark 1:27)

The world is full of religious philosophy and self-help.  Want to know the best way to live?  Just about everyone has an opinion.  Jesus didn’t speak about how He felt, or what He preferred, or even how He believed in His heart things should be.  He spoke with authority.

He spoke with the kind of authority that even the demons, His enemies, had to obey.  When Jesus tells us that we need to be born again – that isn’t His opinion.  That’s fact.  When He says that He is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Him – He is describing the world as it really is.  These are facts that are as unavoidable as gravity or the speed of light.  They are constants.

You may or may not like what Jesus has to say about life, death, and the future of the human soul.  What He has to say may elate you or infuriate you.  None of that really matters.  What He says is true regardless of whether we wish it to be so.  We don’t need to believe Him in order for Him to be right.
