Interest & Ability

“I, even I, am the LORD, and there is no savior besides Me.” (Isaiah 43:11)

A savior is someone who liberates another from danger.  In order to be a savior, one must have two things: interest and ability.  You will not help those you are not interested in.  This is what makes people like police officers and firefighters so impressive – they have committed themselves to the universal interest of others even at great personal peril.

However, interest is only half the equation.  We cannot save if we don’t have the ability to do so.  I may desire to help others, but not have the financial means, the technical expertise, or the physical strength to do so (depending on what they need saving from).  Even if we want to, we can’t.

Enter Jesus.  He can save and He wants to.  We cannot liberate ourselves from sin – those who created the problem cannot be its solution.  So, we look to the cross and see Him there instead.  The Lord who was interested in our redemption and was the only one capable of paying the horrible price.

Christians, this is your Jesus.  Not-yet-Christians, He is interested in being yours, too.
