“If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O LORD, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You that You may be feared.” (Ps 130:3-4)
There is a great comfort to be found in the omniscient mind of God that can count every one of our hairs and watch us as we come and as we go… but that comfort quickly disappears when we realize that He also sees our every misstep. Every time our heart carried hatred, every time our eye wandered, and every petty and selfish decision is seen by Him as well.
If God remembers every sin – who has a chance? Imagine a police detective that never overlooked a clue or a lawyer that caught every lie on the witness stand… we’d all be found guilty of something and condemned. On the Judgment Day, the ugly and nasty skeletons will all be pulled out of our closets and every sin will be marked down.
Unless, He forgives you. If Christ is your Advocate and your Redeemer, then all will be well. Jesus is the perfect Savior to advocate for us because only He can stand perfectly before the Perfect Judge. Do you abide in Him? Are you safe in Christ? God sees all the sins unless they have all been washed away.
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (1 Pet 3:21)
And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on His name. (Acts 22:16)
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal 3:27)
