“There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:21)
They told us that sin would make us happy.
They told us that sin would bring us wealth.
They told us that sin would get us attention.
But nobody told us it would steal our peace, rob us of sleep, and snatch hope from our eyes.
The reason people seek God today is the same reason they always have – the pews are filled with people looking for comfort and solace. The world stole our hope and we finally decided it was time to go home.
Churches aren’t full of perfect people. They are full of the hurting, the crushed, the worn-out and weary, the ashamed, and those who just about surrendered. We have battle scars and bullet wounds in our hearts that the world couldn’t cure.
So we came to the Prince of Peace and in Him we found the salve that sin never offered. When we finally get tired of trying to battle through life, only then are we ready for the King.
“A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)
