“And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
(Acts 2:47b)
The Lord does the adding to His church. It’s His recipe we should be following, not ours. When His Word is taught and His will followed, the seed of His Word grows in the soil of human hearts. Jesus said that no one comes to Him unless His “Father draws them” (John 6:44), and then He answers the question of how that drawing happens… “everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” (John 6:45)
Jesus’ church gets added to by following Jesus’ pattern, and Jesus made it clear what that pattern is – make disciples (teaching) and then baptizing those disciples in His name (response to the teaching). When the teaching goes out, the Lord brings people in.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
