He Will Leave

“I will go away and return to My place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” (Hosea 5:15)

We get it all wrong when we ask why God causes suffering.  He doesn’t cause our suffering, but He will leave us alone to see what life is like without Him in it.  When the northern tribes decided to reject God and go their own way – He allowed it and removed His protection and blessings.  He made a tactical retreat and left them to see life without His guardianship.

God respects our independence and lets us flounder through life without Him if we so choose.  That is our right, no matter how much God knows that going it alone will cause us so much hardship and pain.  He acknowledges our freedom to leave, but He also hopes that our trials will open our eyes to how much we need Him.
