“To deliver you from the strange woman, from the adulteress who flatters with her words; that leaves the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God” (Pr 2:16-17)
There are some topics that are more difficult to talk about than others, but it is often the most difficult conversations that are of greatest importance. One of the greatest dangers in life is sexual temptation. It destroys marriages, homes, childhoods, finances, and joy. It is the epitome of short-term gain at the cost of long-term devastation.
Where does it all begin? Flattery. The woman that flatters a man and makes him feel superhuman, powerful, and respected. The man that flatters a woman and makes her feel precious, special, and loved. We cannot emphasize enough that at the root of all sexual temptation is the lure of unconditional love and respect.
And yet, that isn’t what is actually happening. There is no love, no respect, no true intimacy outside of God’s design of marriage. There is only regret, guilt, shame, and uncleanness. Run away from the lies that flatter. Run and don’t look back.
God’s plan is so much greater and more beautiful than what the world’s ideas of sex are.
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” (1 Cor 6:18)
