“O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)
Peter would have benefited from Jehoshaphat’s speech to prepare the people for war. It was when Peter took his eyes off of the Lord that he began to sink as he walked upon the Sea of Galilee. When we stare at the waves and the storm, we become focused on how much we don’t know what to do.
Yet, when we do the opposite, when we see the trials of life as an opportunity to fix our eyes on God, our weaknesses are diminished in the presence of His strength. We don’t need to know what to do if we are protected by the great wisdom of the Ancient of Days.
Feel powerless? Good. Don’t know what to do? Good. Fix your eyes on Him. There is no better time to grow closer to God than in times of distress.
