“Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker…” (Isaiah 45:9)
Quarrels in a marriage can be over things like putting gas in the car, the toilet seat lid, or how fast they leave the house… all things that don’t really matter in the long run. A quarrel takes a small thing and makes it a big thing that hurts the relationship. Quarrels are often arguments over trivial issues that don’t matter in the long run.
I’m afraid we do that with God sometimes. We want Him to love us the way we want to be loved. We know He will take care of us, but we quarrel over how He is doing it. We want meat instead of manna and we want it right now.
This sort of quarreling never works well because God won’t bend to our will – He’s the Maker, not us. It also doesn’t work because it ruins the joy we could have in the relationship with Him with complaints. What should be a lovely thing is marred by our lack of trust and submission to Him.
So, temper your opinions with contentment and remember that quarreling never improves any relationship.
