“Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king’s son. May he judge Your people with righteousness and Your afflicted with justice.” (Ps 72:1-2)
God’s leadership should be the model for all leaders. When we are in a position of power and authority, whatever that capacity, we should first and foremost think about what is right and just. A leader cannot afford to let his heart determine the outcome of his judgment because our hearts can be deceitful (see Jer 17:9). Truth must prevail in judgment.
Emotional rhetoric, bribery, flattery, and even the voices of those in our corner who blindly follow can only blind a leader from doing what is right and just. Solomon prayed that he could live right and judge justly. There is no greater measure of a leader.
