“I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the hinds of the field, that you do not arouse or awaken my love until she pleases.” (Songs 2:7)
There are many lessons to be learned from Solomon’s epic love ballad about the Shullamite woman, but perhaps none is greater than the one expressed in the chorus over and over throughout the poem: do not awaken love until she pleases.
Society trains young people, especially young women, to pursue love at all costs. Romance, drama, and the search for Mr. Right are introduced at a very early age. We teach young people that romance, intimacy, and sex should be chased at all cost. Find someone to love you and who cares what quality of person they seem to be the message.
Such advice is rubbish. Don’t spend your time finding the right person – just try and be a good person and the rest will take care of itself. Who you are is more important than your relationship status.
