“Woe to those who deeply hide their plans from the LORD, and whose deeds are done in a dark place, and they say, ‘Who sees us?’ or ‘Who knows us?’ ” (Isaiah 29:15)
When we attempt to hide our sins from God, we fail to conceal them, but we succeed at deceiving ourselves. Even if no one else sees, the Creator of heaven and earth is not blind. He is a living God that sees every blade of grass in the field and every sparrow in the tree.
Hiding our sins only hurts us. It is a self-deception that teaches us to continue to sin because we are “getting away with it”. Darkness hates the light, which means that confessing our sins is the antidote to their deadly poison.
Who sees? Who knows? He does. On the plus side, when we confess our sins, we can confidently know that He won’t be surprised by our failings. He already knew, and was just waiting for us to admit it.
