Coachable Christians

“But now, O LORD, You are our Father, we are the clay, and You our potter; and all of us are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

The humility to accept instruction is the key to growth and success.  Every young man I’ve ever trained to preach – that is the first thing I look for.  Is he coachable?  If he is, I can be of use to him.  If he isn’t, I know it will be a waste of both of our time.  Sadly, I know times where I have been the un-coachable one, too.  Most of us have probably wasted a lot of time because we thought we didn’t need to listen and so we came out just as dumb as we went in.

Does God find us coachable?  Are we clay in His hands or have we become hard, rigid, and unwilling to change?  Would He look at us as flexible people that He can teach whatever needs to be taught?  Or would we fall into the category of “a waste of His time and ours” to try and work with?

It’s hard to be coachable, but it is even harder to live a life where you can’t be taught or used.  A humble heart is found at the center of every growing person.
