But What Will You Do at the End?

“The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule on their own authority; and My people love it so! But what will you do at the end of it?” (Jeremiah 5:31)

God reminds Israel that the reason they have bad leaders is because they got the leaders they wanted.  The governed are as much to blame as the governors.  Leadership often is just an indication of who we choose to celebrate.

As Paul will tell Timothy, there will always be a tendency to accumulate teachers that will “itch our ears” (2 Timothy 4:3).  If we cheer for that which gives us only immediate relief, we aren’t going to be ready for what happens in the latter days.

The Scriptures prepare us for the future, often at the sacrifice of present comfort.  Truth isn’t convenience, but it is still truth.  If the Bible makes you uncomfortable, you are probably reading it correctly.

Life can be hard, but God will always be good.
