Avoiding An Empty Life

“[They] walked after emptiness and became empty…” (Jeremiah 2:5)

Most things that quickly grab your attention will also quickly lose it.  Instant gratification will gratify you for exactly that long – just that instant.  So we chase the empty things of this world: sex, money, fame, notoriety, accolades, rest, and entertainment.  We chase them precisely because they do not satisfy – they are empty things and we become empty by them.

God has shown a better path.  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are fruits of the Spirit that will satisfy your soul, but aren’t likely to help you make the front page.

When we bear these fruits, our joy is full and we belong.  That is walking after the Spirit and we become what we were always meant to be – children of God.
