An Imperfect Faith

“I do believe; help my unbelief!”

(Mark 9:24)

I have always admired the humble authenticity of the man that said this to Jesus.  A father with a very sick child desperately wanting to believe that Jesus could heal him, but doubting all the same.  He feared that his shortcomings would be the undoing of the miracle his son needed, so with anguished heart he owns his flawed faith.

Do we do the same?  Do we own that we are fragile creatures in need of growth in our faith?  Do we have the honest to examine ourselves and recognize that our trust in God is partial, but not yet complete?

There is nothing wrong with being a work in progress.  Jesus died so that your sins could be washed away and that includes the sins of unfinished faith… but we must own those sins at the same time.  Our job is to cry out for help, examine the lack in our character, and turn to Him who can make us whole.

Your faith in Christ should be a growing thing.  Start where you are.  Examine.  Assess.  Pray. And He will help you just like He helped so many others who went before you.
