“They shall be My people, and I will be their God.” (Jeremiah 32:38)
The holidays are a time for belonging. We think about and gather with the people who belong to us and we belong to them. It is a time when we think about loved ones and those who matter to us.
It is also a time for many to feel the opposite. They think about the chair that sits vacant or the loved ones that they can’t be with. It is a time of loneliness, isolation, and empty hearts.
This time of year is the best for some and the hardest for others. For some, it is both of those things. Certainly a good reason for all of us to be mindful of each other’s hearts.
Jeremiah gives us a good reminder – in Christ we all belong. Jesus went to prepare a place for us… that means right now there is a seat empty in heaven waiting for you to fill it! He wanted you to belong to Him. He died to make that happen.
You belong to God – you are His people. But God also belongs to us – He is our God. We are family. Heaven has a lot of empty mansions waiting to be filled. We’re all in this together.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could model that love for the world every day?
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)
